It isn't very often that an unscheduled stop would bring about a pleasant surprise in the form of nature just waiting to be photographed. It isn't very often that something like that would happen twice in a person's life. The first time gave me great shots of mule deer. The second time, November of 2007, gave me sheep butts. That's right, sheep butts.

Icky stomachs, unexplained trips to the emergency room, reactions to flu shots, and car sickness had us stopping along the side of a winding country road in Sonoma county. Bored and tired of waiting for the sick people in the second car to finish getting their air I decided to look around and take in the scenery. Camera in hand, I noticed a flock of grazing brown and white sheep on the other side of the wire fence. Not one to let an interesting shot go by and hoping at least one of them would look up, I began taking pictures of the warm and woolly little creatures. Liking what I found, this particular shot stands out as a play of contrasting colors and textures.
